Customizing terminology and translations
Customize the text labels throughout your Frill workspace to match your product's terminology or translate the interface into different languages. This lets you use terms like "Feature Requests" instead of "Ideas" or localize the entire experience for non-English audiences.
Access language settings
Go to Settings > Languages (click your profile avatar in the top-right)
Select the language you want to customize from the dropdown
You'll see editable fields grouped by category (Main Menu, Ideas, Roadmap, Announcements, etc.).
Edit labels and translations
Each field shows the default text as a placeholder. To customize:
Click into any text field
Enter your custom label or translation
Changes save automatically when you click away
The interface shows length limits for each field. If you exceed the recommended length, you'll see a warning like "Exceeded length limit 50" or "Recommended max 30".
Toggle "Hide translated fields" to show only the fields you've customized, making it easier to see what you've changed.
Preview your changes
Use the preview link or add ?lang=xx to your workspace URL (where xx is your language code) to see how your customizations appear to users.
Customize by section
You can customize terminology separately for:
Main menu and navigation
Ideas board
Roadmap
Announcements
Widgets
Surveys
Status labels
Topic labels
This flexibility lets you use different terminology for different parts of your workspace if needed.
