Surveys

Targeting surveys to user segments

Target surveys to specific user groups using audience settings and location rules. This ensures the right people see the right surveys at the right time.

Prerequisite: All surveys require the Frill Script to be installed on your site or app. See Installing the Frill Script to get started.

User identification requires the Frill Script to be installed with user identification enabled. Without this, surveys will show to all anonymous visitors based on location rules only.

Audience targeting

In the Audience tab, you can:

  • Show to identified users only — Restrict surveys to logged-in users you've identified via the Frill Script

  • Custom segments — Target users based on company-defined segments (requires segment configuration in your company settings)

Enable "Only show to identified users" if you want to exclude anonymous visitors and focus on authenticated customers.

Location-based targeting

In the Location tab, control which pages display surveys:

  • All pages — Show everywhere

  • Specific pages — Add URL rules with wildcards (e.g., /pricing/*, /app/dashboard)

URL rules support:

  • Show on — Display survey only on matching paths

  • Hide on — Exclude specific paths from display

Use the URL tester to verify your patterns match correctly before publishing.

Combining targeting methods

You can layer multiple targeting options. For example:

  • Show to identified users only (Audience)

  • On pricing pages only (Location: /pricing/*)

  • After 5 seconds (Trigger delay)

  • Once per week (Frequency)

This creates a focused survey that reaches customers actively evaluating pricing without disrupting their first impression.
